The Will of WILLIAM FYSKE; of Hallysworth, 31 January 1512. To be buried in the church or churchyard of Our Lady in Hallysworth [Halesworth, Suffolk]. To the high altar of Rendham 2s., of Sot[t]erley 2s., and of Holton 6d. [all in Suffolk]. To the Gilds of St. John and St. Loye in Hallysworth, to each a comb of malt. To Brosyerd [Bruisyard] Abbey 20d., and to the sisters there 4d. each and to the friars there 4d. To a priest, to sing for my "father mother my brothern" and others for whom I am bound to pray, in Hallysworth church. To my wife Johan my place which I dwell in, with a close called Schankys close and a meadow under the parson's hill called Paynys meadow, which place I lately bought of Mawte Sewall. To my wife Pycottys close and a meadow called Dame Meadow, for life, with remainder of the same and also of Schankys and Paynys to our son William; and he is to find a priest in Halesworth church, to sing for our souls and the soul of Johan Wryght otherwise called Pygott. To my son John my place in Rendham and my place in Sot[t]erley, with land in Sot[t]erley and Wyllyngham [Willingham, Suffolk], and he is to pay to Johan, my wife, his mother, 26s. 8d. a year, and to find a priest to sing for my soul and the souls of my father and mother and my "brothern" Robert and Thomas and for the souls of the "wyche the forseyd landys into our hands hath growen" in the parish of Rendham. To my wife Johan my household stuff for life, during her widowhood, and afterwards it is to be divided betwixt John and William, our sons. My brother Robert's place and lands in Rendham and Sweftlyng [Sweffling co. Suffolk] are to remain in my executor's hands till such time as he assigned them to his children, the children "gydyd & fowndyn & sette to occupacion." and each to have 40s. on entering. To William Smyth and his wife Elizabeth, my daughter, a tenement called Hoggis. To Johan Smyth, my daughter's daughter, a calf. To Johan Smyth, my wife's goddaughter, the daughter of Symond Smyth, my two young kine, for such as were bequeathed her by her father and by her uncle, Robert Smyth. To Robert Stalworthey, my servant, a black cow in Sotyrley, and to his brother William a heifer. Executors: my son John Fyske, Johan Fyske, my wife, his mother, and William Fyske, my son.
