My grandfather, William King Fisk, was a pioneer in the "Old West" of Kansas, Nebraska and Colorado born shortly after the American Civil War. He lived into his 90s, passing away in
1961. He was able to recount amazing changes in this country, from buffalo hunts to jet flights. He married a Lena Drummond, a decendant of Lords and nobility of Scotland.

My 3xgr.grandmother was Esther Fisk Arterton who was born about 1797 in Norwich England. Esther married Charles
Howard in 1814 Norwich. They had a son John, and John's son was John Fisk Howard (b. 1851) and his daughter was Alice Fisk Howard (b.1855). But I cannot find where the Fiskes connect. Esther's parents were Samuel Arterton and Mary Rout (Norwich. I

Going through family papers following my mother's funeral last week, came a cross a photograph taken in 1917 by one Dr.Charles Norman Fiske of the "Manor of Stanhaugh" in Laxfield. Don't know if he was visiting from the US or connected.

from #222 Nathaniel Ffiske who did indeed perish at sea on
the trip to America, according to our family charts.This
occurred in the year 1676 when he was about 74 years old.
His son Nathan died in Watertown, Mass. the
same year,
apparently having come to America before 1642, as Nathan's
son Nathan was born in Watertown on 17 Oct, 1642.I have
visited the Fisk (no "e") burial grounds in Willington, Conn where my
ancestors from the Revolutionary
period are buried.

Comments: Have been reading the information in your site for three days. It is fascinatiing! As it
turns out, I am a descendant of Phinehas Fiske (172 on your charts) I knew this already, but I did not know a lot of the details of many of my English ancestor's lives. I had information leading back to Simom Fiske (1), but only sketchy information.
I did not know that there was some information leading back to Daniel in 1208! If you are interested and need the information, I could fill you in on the generations between Phinehas and myself. You probably know this already, but a Fiske married
Roger Williams who was the founder of the state of Rhode Island. I am also related directly to him through my Fiske connection. As for the web site. It was great once that I could get onto it. My problem was that very soon after the homepage with the
coat of arms came up, my computer would freeze up and I would have to restart. I would get a message such as system error, or America Online has unexpectedly quit! Through trial and error, I found that I could avoid this problem if I clicked on the
contents page before the music came on. America Online uses Microsoft Internet Explorer. Maybe this has something to do with the problem.

Comments: Delighted to see the web page and information. I got some of my data on the family from Pierce's 1900 USA Fiske book, and I will be interested in seeing any differences.
I
know of a couple errors in Pierce. One concerned my immediate family and one concerned the early Fiske family, in which a man dead three years had a son. Must have been his brother.
I was near Suffolk last summer on a tour of the UK but did not
get an opportunity to see it.

Comments: A family contact in Canada told me about the site. I was glad to see it. I am researching Fisk's who lived in
Middletown, Connecticut
(USA) in the 1800's. I have not yet linked my ancestor to any of the well known
American Fisk lines. The oldest ancestor I can find was Otis Fisk born around 1811. He was a coal merchant
in Middletown with ships trading along the Connecticut
river probably taking coal to New York City. He may
be related to Fisk families living in New York or New Jersey in the 1800's. My husbands name appears on
my e-mail address (he forgot that my very important maiden name would be virtually
invisible). E-mail can
be sent using my address without appending my name. Thanks for gathering all of the information on your
site, maybe one day I'll find my English ancestors there. -Linda

a lot of work as I had planned to do the same sort of thing.
I still want to work on the rest of the Fisk(e)s, especially those who Henry chose to
ignore (he seemed obsessed with the 'e' on the end of the name. My research shows that
the
'e' is unimportant until the middle of the 19th century, once spelling became
formalised then one can rely on the 'e' for information.
I'm quite interested to hear of the work done in the 1930's.
Can you suggest the easiest means of reading
those reports from NE please?
PS For infomration my family can be traced back to Badingham, and Dennington. Again, I
notice that Henry seems to have ignored Badingham as a Parish - i wonder why?
