New Information

A posting in the GEN-MEDIEVAL-L@rootsweb.com mailing list by Todd A. Farmerie in November 2004 gave extracts from some early Laxfield charters, some of which I hadn't seen before. These appear to refer to a third and possibly fourth generation of Hugh Fiskes in Laxfield, with the first being born about 1240-1270. I have reproduced the original posting here along with an analysis and summary of it kindly provided by Rodney Fiske of Adelaide, South Australia.

.

His will, dated Dec 22 1463, bequeathes 40s to each of his sons William, Jeffrey, John and Edmund and mentions daughter Margaret Dowsing.

NB - Simon [often referred to as "Lord Symond"] has frequently been described as Lord of the Manor of Studhaugh, however I have yet to see any contemporary documentary evidence of this, and in any case being Lord of the Manor does not entitle one to the prefix 'Lord'.

NB - Henry ffiske also gave William (8) and Robert (10) as sons of William (2) but these were not mentioned by G.Andrews Moriarty in his later research and are not mentioned in any of the wills, thus they appear unlikely to have been his offspring.
