His will dated Jan 30, 1512, proved May 12, 1513, mentions wife Joan, sons John and William, and brothers Robert and Thomas, also lands and property in Rendham and Sweffling belonging to his brother Robert. Offspring of 8 *26 - JOHN - Married to Felys [Felicia], he was a Mercer [cloth merchant] residing in Halesworth. He was bequeathed property in Rendham, Sotterley and Willingham by his father. He was co-executor of his brother's will in 1522. His own will, dated 5 October, 1530, mentions his son Robert who had predeceased him, also his 'brother' [in-law?] Robert. The will was witnessed by John Fiske of Holton amongst others. *26a - WILLIAM - Married Johane ?, he was bequeathed properties in Halesworth by his father. His will, dated Jan 25, 1520, mentions his sons William and Robert, and daughter Anne. One of the witnesses was John Fiske, priest. *26b - ELIZABETH - Mentioned in father's will, married William Smyth, had a daughter Joan. Offspring of 9b 10 - ROBERT - Born Rendham, Suffolk, a clothmaker by trade. Married Susan, daughter of John Lea, Bayliffe of the Liberty of Bosmere and Claydon, and had two sons; married secondly Johanne Cottell [nee Partridge]. He was listed on the lay subsidy for Rendham in 1524/5. His will was dated Feb 15, 1563, he desired to be buried in the churchyard of St. Mary's at Elms in Ipswich, Suffolk where his first wife was buried. John Cole of Ipswich was executor. Robert ffyske was churchwarden for St. Mary's at Elms parish in 1547, and one of the coroners for Ipswich in 1556. His second wife Johane was also buried at St. Mary's at Elms, her will was dated May 22, 1567. NB - In Fiske Family Papers, William (8) and Robert(10) are shown as sons of William(2). However Robert would appear to have been born somewhat later than his alleged siblings, and at Rendham rather than Laxfield. Significantly G.Andrews Moriarty does not recognise Robert(10) or William(8) as sons of William(2). Although that researcher does identify two unnamed sons they were born somewhat earlier than Robert, and had different spouses. For these reasons I have not connected Robert to the ffirst ffyskes table in the way that Henry ffiske did, but have assembled a possible ancestry for him based on some old wills that Henry did not mention. I have provisionally placed William[8] as Robert'[10]s uncle rather than his brother due to the 50 year gap between their respective wills.. Offspring of 10 28 - SIMON - Of Elmswell? 63 - ROBERT - Married Emme Rushbrook , daughter of William Rushbrooke of Gt. Barton, Suffolk there on Oct 6, 1566. He was a yeoman, they resided at Norton, Suffolk, where he was churchwarden in 1599. He purchased the Hardings Manor in Norton in 1578. He was buried at Norton on Jan 2, 1604. His wife survived him and subsequently moved to Elmswell, Suffolk. Her will, dated Feb 17, 1625 mentions son Robert and his daughter Margaret, son Edward and his daughter Elizabeth, grandchild Mary Palmer, daughter Mary Martin, daughter Frances, wife of Thomas Bardwell. Continuation 30 - MARGARET/MARGERY - Married Thomas Stalyworth, had issue Thomas, Rachael, Margery and John. Mentioned in her father's will of 1563/4. *30b - ALICE - Married John Cole, had issue Robert, Magdelyn and John. Mentioned in her father's will of 1563/4. Offspring of 26a *60a - WILLIAM - Bequeathed property and land in Halesworth by his father in 1522. *60b - ROBERT - Bequeathed property and land in Halesworth by his father in 1522. *60c - ANNE - Mentioned in her father's will of 1520. An asterisk before their number indicates that that person was not listed by Henry ffiske in Fiske Family Papers. |
