- Baptised at Cockfield
on June 16, 1678, educated at Queens' College, Cambridge, where he
entered as a sizar on Feb 2, 1698. Graduated BA in 1694, MA in ? He
married Anna Morley (daughter of John Morley, Esq. of Halstead) on Oct
10, 1708. He held the curacy at Hadleigh for his father, afterwards
became the rector of Shimpling, Suffolk, following his presentation by
his father on June 12, 1704. His will, dated May 27, 1721 bequeathed
lands and property in the villages of Cockfield, Stanningfield,
Bradfield Combust, Felsham and Rattlesden (all in Suffolk); and at Ham,
Lamish Hall, and Colchester (in Essex). He also passed on the perpetual
Advowson of the rectory of Shimpling to his son Thomas and his heirs,
and also that of Great Bromley in Essex. He was buried at Shimpling on
Aug 23, 1722 aged 44. Memorial
slab Offspring of 235 304 - SAMUEL - Baptised at Shimpling on Dec 28, 1709. 305 - REV THOMAS - Baptised at Shimpling on Jan 31, 1710, educated at Christ Church, Oxford, matric. April 1, 1728, graduated BA in 1731, MA in 1734. He was presented to the living of Shimpling (then in the patronage of his late father) by Robert Butts, DD, Bishop of Norwich, on Oct 21, 1735. On his own presentation he became rector of Great Bromley in 1755. He married Mary Syer who was buried at Shimpling on March 13, 1746, having borne him five children. He died at Bath in August 1763; resided at Chadacre Hall,Shimpling. Portrait. 306 - ELIZABETH - Baptised Feb 7, 1711. 307 - ANNA - Baptised Sept 29, 1713, married ? Goodwin Esq. and had issue. 308 - DOROTHY - Baptised March 30, 1715, buried at Shimpling Aug 5 the same year. 309 - JOHN - Baptised March 21, 1716. 310 - HENRIETTA - Baptised Sept 12, 1718. 311 - ZACHARIAS - Baptised Aug 1, 1719. Offspring of 305 335 - REV JOHN - Born at Shimpling, Sept 18, 1739, baptised at Little Waldingfield on Oct 19 the same year. He married Susan Neville, who died on June 29, 1797, aged 63. He was instituted to the living of Shimpling by Philip Yonge, DD, Bishop of Norwich, on June 11, 1773. He was buried there on Sept 30, 1800. Memorial tabletto Susan in Shimpling Church. 336 - ANN - Born at Shimpling on Feb 19, baptised March 9, and buried Sept 4, 1738. 337 - MARY (MOLLY) - Baptised at Shimpling on Sept 18, 1740, she married in 1763 to the Rev. Temple Chevallier, MA, of Aspall Hall near Debenham, sometime Fellow of Magdalen College, Cambridge. They had nine children, five sons and four daughters. Of the daughters, one died unmarried; Elizabeth married the Rev. B.B. Syer of Kedington and Waldingfield; Harriet married Mr John Cobbold MP, and Sophia married Mr Robert Cream of Long Melford. Of the five sons; Charles settled in London and went into business on the Stock Exchange, the other four, Temple, Clement, Thomas and John all took Holy Orders. John, the youngest son, married three times; a daughter by his third marriage, Fanny Chevallier, was the mother of Viscount Kitchener (Lord Kitchener of Khartoum). 338 - ELIZABETH - Baptised Aug 6, 1741, buried Sept 10 in the same year. 339 - THOMAS - Baptised at Shimpling on Dec 4, 1743, died in infancy. Offspring of 335 361 - SUSAN - Born June 20, 1770, died at Ipswich on April 10, 1851 aged 81 years. There is (or was, in 1901) an alter tomb within iron railings at St. Matthew's Church, Ipswich, "To the memory of Susan Fiske, sister to the late Rev. Thomas Fiske, Rector of Shimpling, &c." 362 - REV THOMAS - Baptised at Lavenham on June 22, 1768; educated at Jesus College, Cambridge, graduated BA in 1789, MA in ? He married Susannah Smith of Boreham, Essex, spinster, on Jan 26, 1801,at Boreham. He was rector of Shimpling and Kettlebaston, Suffolk, and a J.P. for Bury. He died at St. Pierre les Calais, France, on Sept 15, 1838, aged 73; resided at The Thorne, Shimpling (now Thorne Court) and Kettlebaston. His wife died on July 25, 1863 aged 82. Memorialto her at Kettlebaston churchyard. 363 - ELIZABETH MARY NEVILLE - Born May 6, 1772, married in 1798 at Shimpling to Marcus Corry, Captain in the 5th Regt. of Dragoon Guards. Baptised Jan 15, 1775, married F.D. Mudd Esq., of Gedding. She was
buried on July 2, 1814, aged 39. Offspring of 362 379 - ELLEN SUSANNA - Baptised privately on April 3, 1803, married Frederic Caldecott Esq. of Wilbraham, Cambs. at Shimpling and had issue a son, Charles John, who married Sarah Quelch, both of the latter died in Australia. She died on July 20, 1828 aged 25. Tablet in Shimpling Church. 380 - ELIZABETH MARIA - Born May 7, 1804, buried Feb 12, 1813 aged eight years. 381 - ANNA - Born Aug 15, 1806. On April 18, 1829 she married Frederic Caldecott Esq., her deceased sister Ellen Susanna's husband, at St. Benet's, Paul's Wharf, London. They had issue two sons and three daughters, she died at Boulogne-sur-mer, France in March, 1854. 382 - REV JOHN ROBERT - Born July 19, 1805, educated at St. Catherine's College, Cambridge, graduated BA. He married firstly, at Shimpling Church on May 7, 1839, Susan Elliott, daughter of A. Cawston Esq., of Shimpling Hall, by whom he had two sons. He married secondly, on Jan 16, 1874, Emma, daughter of George Calver of Ingham, Suffolk. He was rector of Kettlebaston for 52 years, from 1839 until he died in 1891 (on Nov 7), and previous to that had been the curate there under his father. He was buried at Kettlebaston, his widow afterwards removed to Bury St. Edmunds. Inscriptions | Picture page 383 - THOMAS - Born Feb 3, 1808, he was an officer in the Royal Navy and a friend of Lord William Paget. He died unmarried in New Bond St, London on June 21, 1849 and was buried at Kettlebaston churchyard. Inscription. 384 - CHARLES NEVILLE - Born Oct 2 1811, he was an officer in the Army. He died unmarried at Kettlebaston Rectory on Nov 17, 1856 and was buried in Kettlebaston churchyard.Inscription. 385 - RICHARD ZACHARIAH
- Born at Shimpling on June 28, 1816, educated at Dedham
Grammar School. On leaving school he was articled to a lawyer, however
it proved not to his taste and he soon left that profession. He married
firstly a Miss Williams by whom he had 2 sons, and secondly Fanny
Chapman by whom he had 4 daughters. He resided almost all his life,
until a year or two of his death, at Boulogne-sur-mer in France. He
died in London on Jan 12, 1894, and was buried at Buxton Lamas in
Norfolk.Fanny was buried therein 1902. 386 - MARY ISABELLA - Born May 15, 1810, on May 11, 1830 she married the Rev. George Alexander Paske, MA, son of Judge Paske, of Needham Market. She died in November 1853. Their offspring were:
387 - HENRIETTA SARAH - Baptised Oct 4, 1814, married John Moore Cooksley, Esq. on May 26, 1835. They had issue 2 sons and 2 daughters. She died at Boulogne-sur-mer in 1845. Offspring of 382 - Picture page 411 - THOMAS ELLIOTT - Born Dec 10, 1840, married Ann Letitia, daughter of Thomas Waddelow Esq., of Undley Hall, Lakenheath, Suffolk on Oct 31, 1861. They resided at Cockfield, he died without issue on Sept 24, 1897 and was buried at Kettlebaston. Inscription. 412 - JOHN FREDERICK - Born on March 8, 1842, he was a surgeon, resided at West End Cottage, Donhead, St. Andrew, Wilts. He died on Sept 24, 1876 aged 34 and was buried at Kettlebaston.Inscription. 413 - CHARLES AUGUSTUS - Born Dec 16, 1874, married Elizabeth Spring. He was for many years an railway engine driver on the main lines around East Anglia, and had the privilege of driving the Royal Train whenever the Royal Family was visiting Sandringham.Their offspring were:
414 - MARGARET BEATRICE - Born Nov 19, 1876, resided in Bury St. Edmunds for many years and worked for the brewers Greene King, died unmarried on 30th January 1968 aged 91.
