Having had the site for around 12 years in one form or another I finally got fed up with the dated look and decided to go all 21st century by migrating it into the site you see now. The main change will be the blog which I intend to add to as often as possible, or whenever I find something interesting to pass on at least. All the content from the old site will make it onto here in due course and I hope to make my database more easily searchable but in the meantime you can access it all here as before.

I should add — they are the grandparents of James Liberty , Robert Emmett, John H.,
Van Hayden, Daniel Webster, Andrew Jackson Fisk. Took wagon trains to Montana,
Idaho etc. I have the Fisk Family Papers but I can’t make the important connection between James Byron and the Faxfield Fiske’s. Can anyone help? Thanks !!!
Anyone know James Byron Fisk married to Jerusha T Loveland, I believe both
were born in New York – early 1800′s
Hello and Season’s Greetings. My 17th great-grandfather was Lord Symond Fiske, born 1399 in Laxfield, England. I found your website while doing research on Lord Fiske, and would like to be added for future visits. Thank you.
Hannah Mary Fisk was my Grt Aunt (wife of my maternal Grt Uncle, Alfred Edward Wells Shearsmith). Do you have information on her school etc or any other information please?
Thank you.
Chris
Hello. I am not a Fisk, nor a Fiske.
I recently came across a fork and spoon, both hand engraved with the name ‘John Fisk’. On the reverse of the fork and spoon, is printed a Nazi Eagle with Swastika. I believe the cutlery to be Nazi issue, but the engraving looks to be personal rather than professional. Also, I don’t think there are many, if any German Fisks. I believe it may have been traded in a P.O.W camp.
Does anyone have any reference to a relative who may have been held in a German camp, or maybe worked in an English camp.
The cutlery was bought in the West Sussex area.
Thanks for reading, and thanks in anticipation of any responses.
Rob
Fascinating, do you have any photos of them? Incidentally I’m in West Sussex myself, where did you find them?

Very impressed with the new look website. I have the hardcopy “Fiske Family Papers” that went up to 1902 as these were passed down to me when my father died and will go to my son when the time comes.
I have some information that will help to fill a couple of gaps in the database.
My father was Kenneth Charles John Fiske d.o.b 12 February 1925 and currently his spouse and marriage details are blank. He married Rosamond Hilda Driver (my late mother) and they married on 11 June 1949 at St Peter’s Church in March, Cambridgeshire.
Thanks for filling that gap Ian. Thinking about it I guess that out of all the Fisk[e]s who have contacted me through the site we must be about the closest related? I know there was a rift a number of years ago but I don’t know what it was all about.

Regarding the misinformation about the parentage of Mary Fiske m. Anthony Fisher in 1586. It did indeed begin with the Pierce book pub. 1896 on pages 46 & 47. He had the correct names of William/Mary’s children but then tacks on Mary (Fisk?Fisher). He also has the wrong parentage for William’s grandfather, it is Richard b. ca 1492, m. Elizabeth; son of Simon b. 1462, m. Margaret; s/o William . 1423 & Joan Lynne; s/o Simon b. 1399 & Susannah Smyth.
Martha 1717 Stradbroke, Sfk Henry = Martha Lowe Peasenhall, Sfk James Nicholls of Badingham, Sfk 1736 Sibton, Sfk.
I am descended from this Fiske lady and her first husband James Nicholls. After his death she appears to have married a John Mann. With both husbands she has three sets of twins! My ancestor was Robert Nichols, twin of James, who lived in Sutton, Suffolk. His descendants moved to Orford, Suffolk, then London and Hertfordshire.
I am researching my family line, the Nichols. I have the info. that a James Nicholls m. Martha Fiske on 12, Oct., 1736 in Sibton, Suffolk Co., Eng. I cannot find James’ birthdate and place, nor his parentage. I don’t know Martha’s date of death or place of burial. Are you following Robert Nichols who was born on 14, March, 1744/5? I have info. on his family. Please e-mail me. Any info. you have would be greatly appreciately.
Hi Jane. I too am a descendent of Robert Nichols bap. March 14, 1745 in Badingham, Suffolk, England. His twin, James, d. on June 19, 1746 in Badingham, Suffolk, England. I am looking for info. on their father James who m. Martha Fiske on October 12, 1736 in Sibton, Suffolk, England. I cannot not find his birthdate or place of birth, nor his parents’ names. I assume he was born in England. There are sooo many James Nichols!!! Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. I have been stuck for a long time!

Hi,
I’m Robert (Bob) Stephens and my Great Grandfather was Francis Fisk of Nottingham, 1863 – 1952, Lace Manufacturer and Trader. He was married to Rosa Emmaline Nee James in about 1890 She was born c 1865 They had three children – Sidney b 1891 who farmed at Kirmington, North Lincolnshire; Dorothy Mary, my Grandmother, b 1893 who married the Rev David Stephens MA, Congregational Church Minister and born in Defynnock, near Brecon, in about 1916; and Agnes Muriel who married Stephen Paton in around 1920.
Francis’s Father came from Suffolk with the Railways – possibly the Great Northern Railway and lived in the Meadows area near the Nottingham Stations. I’d be interested to find out more as Framlingham seems to have been spoken about as a place of origin. I’m a Railway Historian as a hobby and am interested in the Railway links as well.
Bob Stephens.
Hi Hugh,
First time back for a while.
I am descended from Charles Thomas Fiske, b. 1808 in Barbados, the son of Charles Thomas and Clara? As we are not too inventive with our christian names, the ideal way to trace further is by the female line surname. Unfortunately in this case we have come up blank. As this was during emancipation, Clara may have been a slave or a freed slave.
I have tried to get information from Barbados remotely but, I have planned a trip to try and see if there are any local records.
I know that my 2nd Cousin, Pam, has tried from Las Vegas US; to obtain the same information but has also come up blank. One other course may be that our particular tree may have been from the American Fiske’s that moved to Barbados for the sugar boom and then returned to the UK afterward.
If anyone has any further info, please make contact.
Regards,
Ian
I have recently come across my paternal family tree compiled by my dad’s sister. It goes as far back as Charles and Eliza Fiske, parents of Charles Thomas Fiske b1808 and documented as a mariner in Barbados. He was married to a Mary Ann Greenland in Middlesex. Their son Charles Thomas Fiske (boiler maker) appears to have been married to an Esther Young. I think his second wife was Clara Buttworth daughter of Charles Butterworth who was a tailor. It seems Charles Thomas was born in Mile End so I doubt Charles found his wives in Barbados. I have only very limited genealogy at my disposal so will be thrilled to hear more from everyone!

Hi Susan, I am Edna Fisks daughter. It was a surprise to come across your comments. I do not have contact with a lot of my family, and it is one of the missing links in my life. I see Auntie Vera sometimes, and remember my aunties and uncles from when I was young. Uncle Wilf used to give me half a crown, when he saw me in the street, where I lived with my foster family. I remember Auntie Edith, and she was a lovely lady.
Regards
Edna
I have copy of marriage certificate William Fisk(1851) married on 21 Aug 1877 Fanny Margaretta Fisk(1853) — They were 1st cousins.
William’s father was John Lee Fisk(1821) and Fanny’s father was Christopher Fisk(1829).
John Lee and Christopher were both sons of William Fisk(1796) and Fanny Bridges(1796).
Cheers, Tony.

Thank you

Hi
My 4xgreat-grandfather was John FISK (b.1774 possibly in Walton-on-the-Naze) an Excise Officer of Great Yarmouth. I have just received from the National Archives files supporting the application of John FISK to join the customs and excise service. However, this John FISK was born in Southwold Suffolk in 1818 and try as I might I can’t manage to attach him to my ancestor. These files (TIFs) are therefore available to anyone who wants them. I would also be grateful if anyone would know why John made a legal declaration in lieu of the oath of office and allegiance?
best wishes
Angela
